Pierre-Auguste Renoir, commonly known as Auguste Renoir, was a French artist who was a leading painter in the development of the Impressionist style.
A fine hand-signed, photograph of a painting by Renoir, 'Femme Au Chapeau De Fleur'.
This photograph originated from the
archive of Renoir's art dealer, Ambrose Vollard. In order to protect against forgeries and ownership battles
after the artists death, Vollard had the original works photographed, then
signed by artist and notarized by the Mayor of Cagnes.
The signatures and authenticating statement are clear and bold and it is dated
10th January, 1911.
Why is this rare?
This is only the second such piece that I have come across in three years and is a truly beautiful example.
