Bridget Riley

Bridget Louise Riley CH CBE (born 1931) is an English painter who is one of the foremost exponents of Optical Art.  She studied art at Goldsmiths College and later at The Royal College of Art.

Early in her career Riley was an art teacher for children and worked part-time as an illustrator at the J. Walter Thompson advertising agency. Riley developed her distinctive Optical Art style in 1960 after experimenting with semi- impressionist figurative paintings and pointillist landscapes in her earlier works.
